Net neutrality is returning, why I'm a supporter.

I feel like the restarting of net neutrality is a good thing. I'll tell you why. I had broadband before most of my peers. The broadband I had back then was far different than this. I had a company called PheonixDSL. I had no limits on what I could do. I ran a server in my house, I did what I wanted to without being blocked. Phoenix got bought out by MegaPath, I continued to have great internet until all of it was "regulated"

Then, I got a letter from MegaPath that told me they could no longer provide me internet and I had to find another ISP. The map was cut up and parts given to certain ISPs. So my area was was Comcast, AT&T and at the time I could get EarthLink. Later WOW was added as a service I could get. I got EarthLink at the time, a consumer pushed brand of internet. I immediately noticed that it was branding over your internet connection, also it was noticeably slower and there were restrictions. I could no longer run my server.

Over the years I changed from EarthLink to AT&T. Things got worse. I contemplated going over to Comcast but when I experienced how customers of mine where having issues with them. I knew I would just have to continue to deal with AT&T.

I've moved from AT&T to Astound over the last year or so. Astound took over areas that WOW serviced. I can say its better, but I still long for those PheonixDSL/MegaPath days. Well I think net neutrality can help that a bit.

Then next issue I want to see tackled is getting rid of the map and allowing companies to compete with each other. In the end it will bring down prices and force companies like Comcast to give better service.

Here is an article from USA Today explaining the FCC reinstatement of the rule that was repealed in 2017 by the Trump administration.
