My timeline: The Web Browser

Over the years I've tried different web browsers. At first I wanted the fastest, the one that loaded the web site the best. In those days Netscape Navigator was my thing. Then as time went along Chrome became my default browser. As I became more security and privacy focused I moved away from Chrome to Chromium and all the browsers that sprung up from it.

The first was Chromium itself, really basic as far as features. It didn't take long for me to figure out that this isn't a browser that I can do complex things with. Your average user that doesn't do much can use this. Its stable, reliable and can be an everyday browser.

Next was Firefox. It was the king of security and I thought privacy until that little story came out about what the Mozilla Foundation was doing with our data. A lot of people in the tech community moved away from Firefox, but where would they go next.

Brave came on the scene touting its security and privacy, which I think they have delivered on so far. They have a crypto aspect to it where you can earn BAT for engaging with advertisements. At first I was into it because it was in the middle of the crypto craze. Now I'm relegated to just leave that feature off for now. I might revisit it later but after getting burned by Celsius and Voyager, crypto had to take a back seat for a while. But the browser continues to be the go to one for me now. I use to the sync feature to link my browsers on my smartphone and all my other computers. A really good tool.

Lately I'm looking back into the forks of Firefox like IceWeasel and Librewolf. Which Librewolf was my daily driver on any arch based system I would build. Then I discovered FireDragon. A slick browser that is fast, looks good and has some nice features. I'm still in the feeling out phase. I tend to like Mozilla based browsers over Chromium based ones. I'm using FireDragon right now on Gaurda Linux.

I did this to tell everyone, techie and regular users go out and try new things. You will find something you like and keep looking cause your likes will change over time. Technology is an adventure, go out and take it on.
