This email from DraftKings another alert of what we should already be doing.

I noticed an email from DraftKings. Normally I'd probably skip it for later, but it said "Important Account Security Recommendations". So I better see what it says.

It seems that some accounts are having strange activities. Well when money is involved I wouldn't doubt that someone is going to try to take advantage of it for their own gain. DraftKings are encouraging things I think most users should be doing like using unique passwords.

This should be a common practice for everyone but since we get emails like this from sites and there is data to prove it doesn't happen like it should they and I as your friendly tech guy have to keep reminding you. If someone gets your login info from a breach on another website, you know what the next thing that will happen. They will locate every account owned by your same email address and just try that same password. Bing! now they got your bank account, etc and that's the goal. By having unique passwords AND using something like simplelogin to not have the same email address and passwords associated with lower accounts like social media with your more important accounts like you online banking.

Next, they suggest to change your passwords. Now this is important for several reasons. Periodically changing your password makes you a moving target. This even goes for us who use password managers. I have a period of time where I go through all my passwords on my more important accounts and change them. Just set a calendar reminder to change a group of passwords. You will find that it makes you a harder target.

Then they suggest 2FA (2 Factor Authentication) You will have software like Auth, Google Authenticator, etc., that when linked to your account will give you a code you a unique code you have to enter when you login. Another annoyance but again it makes you a harder target.

Lastly, Opt in to email alerts. This will give you a notifications of attempted logins. So even if you do all of the above someone my try to login anyway. So this alert will let you know and you can take action before anything happens. Once I even alerted the site I'm seeing activity, probably the same thing that triggered this email from DraftKings.

Every site your on you should take these precautions. If you don't want to, don't have the account. You are responsible for your own safety. As much as websites and app makers try to secure you. You are the first line of defense as if you don't do what is needed no security tool in the world will protect you. So I hope that you get understanding from this post and you take action to protect yourself.
