What you should be doing during the cyberattacks against Ukraine.

I know you heard reports of cyberattacks on Ukraine's infrastructure. What does this mean to you? Attacks on Ukraine mean attacks on everyone as hackers try to gain resources for the continuing attacks on Ukraine.

This is the time when you need to do security checks on your accounts. Also, consider other actions to put you out of the threat model. There are a few things you can do.

First and foremost you need to use a password manager. People use to tell you to use unique passwords for every site but realistically would remember all those passwords. Not even I as a tech expert would.

There are a couple suggestions in that area.

Bitwarden (https://bitwarden.com/), is probably the most recognized one out of the bunch. Your vault is protected by a default password. Another is KeePass (https://keepass.info/), this one is more open source than Bitwarden, for some a little more to learn but just as good of a product.

Go to each site to check them out and see which one you prefer. As it is always a person's choice. Whichever one you feel comfortable using.

Next is checking Have I been pwned (https://haveibeenpwned.com/) This is a website where you can check to see if your email address was in a data breach. Companies are supposed to report data breaches but sometimes they report it late or if they do it isn’t publicized as it should be so you never really find out. So this website will help you find out if your email was in a breach.

Now, you find out your email was in a breach or you just don't want to use your email to sign up for newsletters
and other websites. What do you do now? Well, one suggestion is Simplelogin (https://simplelogin.io/) This is a website where you can make email aliases that will forward the email to you. This masks your real email address from getting taken in data breaches. You then can delete that alias and make another. Also, you can send emails from that alias which keeps your anonymity.

So here are a few things you can do during this time, really its improvements you can do to elevate your privacy and security online. If you have a question about anything I’m always available to help.
